I’ve been out of work for a few years now. I came to England with my husband for his cancer treatment, so I’ve spent the last couple of years in hospitals. Volunteering with VCG Enhanced Volunteering Project is a great opportunity for me. I will have a qualification in Customer Service, which will hopefully help me to find a job. This role has helped me get my confidence back and I’ve met lovely people and gained new skills. It is lovely to be under the wing of a caring, experienced teacher (Lyn Asquith-Brown). I don’t know where this will lead but it’s nice to have space to make up my mind.
I was unemployed and finding it difficult to gain employment as I didn’t have the relevant work experience and I am shy and my confidence was low.
In November 2011 I applied with the Volunteer Centre for the six month placement on the Enhanced Volunteering Programme. When I started the programme I was reserved and nervous, especially when it came to answering the phones and dealing with enquiries. After my six month placement I feel confident, more outgoing and comfortable with dealing with enquiries and communicating with clients. I now feel prepared to look for employment.
