Last Monday the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Neil Grey, and I spent the evening at an awards ceremony at City Hall. I was delighted to be receiving a Team London Community Certificate on behalf of Volunteer Centre Greenwich, including a celebratory photo with The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, and the opportunity to catch up with other organisations from Lewisham and Greenwich.

These awards also gave me a chance to think about what we do and why volunteering is so important for our community. As a Centre, our vision is ‘Lives and communities positively changed through volunteering’. This reflects our belief that volunteering really can make a difference – to the individual, to the organisation and to their local community. From enabling services to be delivered to developing skills and confidence, volunteering builds social value and community strength.

The Team London awards recognise outstanding commitment to improving the lives of others, so I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all our volunteers, staff, partners and members, working together to make a difference to people in Greenwich. Here’s to another successful year!
