Learning and Work Ambassador

What is a Learning and Work Ambassador?

A Learning and Work Ambassador is a volunteer who supports and encourages people in their local community to learn and guides them to appropriate courses or provides access to a programme that supports borough residents back into employment.

Volunteering as a Learning and Work Ambassador can bring personal satisfaction, development opportunities, improved career prospects and an increase in self-confidence and motivation.

In addition, you will be helping people in your local community to enjoy the benefits that accessing learning and/ or work programmes can bring to their lives.

If you are a good listener, enjoy helping people, are passionate about learning and have some time to spare to share that passion, becoming a Learning and Work Ambassador could be for you!

What do Community Learning Champions do?

Learning and Work Ambassadors promote the value of learning to people in their local community. They market Adult and Community Learning courses to Greenwich Borough residents, promoting local course providers and local work programmes. They attend local community events and distribute course prospectuses throughout the Borough.

In addition, Learning and Work Ambassadors  support potential learners in finding a course that best suits individual learning needs. They attend course providers’ enrolment days and promote Lifelong Learning through their day to day activities, supporting friends, family, neighbors into adult learning.

They also have the chance to shape adult education in their area by giving feedback to learning providers to help them improve the courses they offer.

Learning and Work Ambassadors have access to work programmes and funds that could assist borough residents on the journey towards learning and or gaining meaningful employment.

Leaning and Work Ambassadors are volunteers, they are not paid for the work they do. However, they can claim reasonable expenses for money spent during their volunteering.

Learning and Work Ambassador Role: is it for me?

If you are passionate about Lifelong Learning and can offer a few hours a week, then this could be a volunteering opportunity that suits you.

Volunteer Centre Greenwich provides free training and development for Learning and Work Ambassadors.

All new Learning and Work Ambassadors attend a mandatory induction day that will clearly outline their role, as well as a one-day workshop on Information, Advice and Guidance.

They also have the chance to work towards an NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Advice and Guidance (accredited by NCFE).

Learning and Work Ambassadors in Greenwich are invited and encouraged to attend a ‘Forum’ meeting every six weeks, where they can meet and exchange information, and give support to one another.
